PE 3Y Associate -> PC/DL [???]

3+ years as a PE associate and interviewing to transition to PC/DL/OC.

Those in the space, any thoughts on what level / title I should expect / be asking to enter at (Ass., Sr. Ass., etc.) given no previous credit / lending experience?

Thanks, and understand that nomenclature of titles can slightly vary by firm.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from a 3+ year PE Associate role to Private Credit (PC) or Direct Lending (DL) without prior credit/lending experience typically places you at the Senior Associate level. This is because your PE experience demonstrates strong deal execution skills, financial modeling expertise, and familiarity with investment processes, which are highly transferable to PC/DL roles.

However, the exact title can vary depending on the firm’s structure and your ability to demonstrate adaptability to the credit-focused mindset. Some firms might consider you for an Associate role if they feel you need more time to adjust to the nuances of credit underwriting and lending.

Key advice: - Highlight your deal experience and ability to assess risk, as these are critical in PC/DL. - Be prepared to discuss how your PE skills translate to credit investing. - Research the firm's title structure, as nomenclature can differ (e.g., some firms may use "VP" for roles others call "Senior Associate").

Good luck with your transition!

Sr Associate. You should have your pick of the litter as PC is ultimately a process/deal focused role.

Doubtful in this market. He said no credit experience so it sounds like he didn’t have any lending experience at a BB.

also no mention of his PE fund size, if you’re not at UMM or better PE - you won’t get the benefit of the doubt for senior associate
