Crippled myself early on, not sure how to recover
I'm a rising sophomore at a semi-target who rather recently decided to pursue IB (or at least try out an internship). The issue is that my GPA isn't high enough yet to be considered during the fall recruiting cycle and it seems like every finance related internship has its deadline in like October/November. After my first semester I'd have a decent GPA (3.5 ish) but I feel like everything is closed. Does anyone have any advice on how to navigate this? Since sophomore options are limited anyway I thought about trying to get a tech gig or F500, but I'm not sure what the timeline is like with those. Also, I know that I need to start networking in the fall but don't know how to address the fact I won't even be applying for IB yet (due to the GPA). I'm working at a startup right now and I'd prefer a more legit/paid internship next summer lol.
You still have plenty of time to raise your gpa for when it really matters junior year, and a lot of regional/boutique investment banks do their recruiting in the spring so work on getting that gpa up in the fall
This is 100% right. A few years down the road and none of this will really matter and you'll be able to move lanes career-wise. Just get started where you want to point yourself.
