Advice on getting internship

Does anyone have advice on how to stand out as a sophomore when applying for equity research internships? Also, any tips on networking or resources that could help me would be greatly appreciated!

Look around a Portfolio Managers at smaller funds on Linkedin as well as people who have interned in finance roles. Usually there are people that interned at smaller hedge funds that regularly hire interns for free or for little pay. The only way you're going to be able to get direct relevant experience is going about it informally through the alumni network or other contacts on Linkedin, they usually don't post anything.
