Asset Management vs Sales, Trading, Research

I'm struggling to understand that the difference is between the two business areas highlighted in the title.

For example, looking at the JP Morgan careers site, there are equity research roles within both these business areas...yet the description and training and development seem to be very different between the two. What's the difference?

Anyone shed light on this?
