Analyst with no coverage or ranking
I have an offer to work with a ‘generalist’ analyst with no ranking or coverage. The function is to highlight sector trends to clients and S&T. I don’t believe there’s any corporate access value. Overall, doesn’t seem like ER career advice is directly applicable here. I’ll let y’all share your thoughts. TIA!
This sounds like an S&T conduit position that some banks have.
Is it a permanent role or a transition role i.e. do you eventually do something else? Because it doesn't sound like a role with growth.
Thanks for the reply! Definitely not permanent. Plus, the firm has a sweatshop reputation. I think I have my answer… but just curious how common are these S&T conduit roles across the street?
No what I mean is, is this a role where the bank eventually moves you to a different seat. Sometimes roles exist like that wherein they are purposefully transitory and are meant to sort of give people a holistic overview of a division, then eventually they are moved on in a semi-planned way. So I don't mean will you eventually leave, I mean will they eventually move you? E.g. how long has the guy you'd be working under been doing the job?
Idk how common they are across the street tbh
Ah I see. It’s a permanent position in that sense. The analyst has been doing it since ~8 years. No associate has lasted more than 6 months.
