Auditor > Equities Analyst
Hi all,
I'm a 3rd year auditor hoping to get some advice on how to make the jump into an Equities Analyst position.
For context, I'm in a Big 4 in Sydney and I am about to finish my CA modules.
I studied at a good university, obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) with a strong GPA, in addition to a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). I'm hoping to distinguish myself from the perception of 'auditor who does mindless ticking in bashing', and trying to emphasize my ability to problem solve etc.
I'm considering a few options as below: > A corporate banking role at Macquarie bank for which I've already received an offer. I'd then try and go into equities after 1 year of experience; > A masters in Finance (fairly confident I'd be able to get decent results in this); > Being patient in audit until I can go straight into Equities. I've gotten to the final round of interviews at Goldman Sachs in Equities, but unsure if this is just a fluke > Doing a year in a smaller equities firm, or otherwise in a smaller Corporate finance firm
I'm strongly considering the Corporate Banking option because I thought it may help bridge the gap between audit and finance before I try and jump to Equities, but wondering if this logic is sound. Also wondering if I'm undermining the value of audit experience, and maybe it is possible to make the jump straight into a good equities role (especially because I know the market in Australia is a lot easier to break into than US and UK etc).
Any info would be really appreciated! Thanks
