BAML ER vs Citi ER

Which is better for long term?

Currently ER 3rd year analyst -

Go to ML with a top ranking Sr Analyst but be most junior of 4 Junior Analysts - so promotion to Associate may be difficult given I will have 3 people ahead of me

Be at Citi first time Sr Analyst but be the 2nd most senior of the Junior Analysts with a promotion to Senior Associate (or Associate at most firms) pretty much locked in come Jan

at BAML analyst is post-undergrad associate is post-MBA or required experience

Well after looking at the directory, BAML is weird. They have the MD and VP level Research Analysts like normal. Senior Research Analyst is usually an MD and Research Analyst is VP.

But they also have Analyst and Associate for Research that are BOTH post-undergrad. I think it depends on how many associates/senior analysts are already on the team.

Now to answer your question, pick the coverage you would rather do. What are the groups?

Both opportunities are for the same Sector - this is basically a question being 4th man on a highly ranked Analysts team at a higher ranked firm or being 2nd man on a newbie Sr Analyst team and a lower ranked firm
I think you need more info. Intuition says you always want to work on the best team ESPECIALLY in ER, but it seems like there are other variable at play. What sector?

Higher ranked without a doubt then despite being lower on the totem pole. It will offer more security plus higher bonuses and better exit ops.

Would being the most junior, but covering my own names, on a 4 person II ranked team generate more exit opps then being the 2nd person on an unknown analysts team? Both bb firms. Obviously as 2nd man on team would be covering more large cap names with but side interest, but would being on II ranked team at top er firm give a more diverse client base and more chutzpah on the resume for buyside?
