BAML Global Research

Had a chance to talk with a MD in BAML Global Research. I feel like the in her words the job is pretty interesting. I wonder is Global Research kind of similar with equity research or more like a support team for S&T? What does they actually do? Thank you for your answers!

ER is part of Global Research. Global Research encompasses many research areas, from equities to fixed income, commodities etc. They all generally support S&T, because sales people use research products to generate commission fees from clients. This is going to change from 2018 with MiFID II in place, when research will must be paid for, but this is a slightly different topic.

Global research breaks down into credit research and equity research. I applied to this job and ended up in ER. Pay is great and hours aren't bad but the culture is pretty awful. If you're okay working in a dead silent environment than go for it. You might spend 5 weeks at the company before you ever hear two people on the floor having a conversation.
