Biotech ER: BB vs. Evercore / Leerink / Jefferies?
Which would you choose if you had similar offers (e.g., comp, title) for a biotech ER role at BB vs. a place like Evercore / Leerink / Jefferies? I know the latter places are solid and well known in the biotech ER world. The analysts I would be working for at both BB and Evercore / Leerink / Jefferies are equally poorly II-ranked (so truly comparing apples to apples). Would possibly be considering pivoting to the buy side after 2-3 years of SS ER.
I'd like to think just given the interest around biotech, that even the "poorly ranked" Analysts in Biotech are still pulling in great money?
If you're interested in a buyside move though, I'd think Evercore ISI would be your best bet. Just assuming that even if you're not under a top II ranked analyst, that since Evercore ISI is in the top 5 for total II ranked analysts, that you'd get more looks from the buyside by just being at Evercore generally.
Think evercore or leerink if all else equal and you wanna go to a biotech specific fund.
If you wanna do L/S equity maybe it’s marginally better to go to a BB but obviously evercore gets great name recognition. I’d say if it’s not the ranked analysts at Jefferies then I’d stay away.
Also above all of this - I’d pick whatever niche you’re interested in assuming all else equal (e.g. oncology, neuro, Biopharma, etc.)
currently have an offer for bb er biopharma. I don't have a scientific educational background but got lucky and gained 2yrs of biotech vc exp. what are the possible exits? can I go to ib in biopharma or l/s later on?
