Bloomberg - Commodities and Precious metals indices

Hi All,

I wanted to use the proper commodity prices in order for me to analyze the raw materials cots for a company i am analyzing. I found a ton of indices and not sure what is the right index to look at for gold, oil, copper aluminium etc. Shall i look at the spot or the forward rates? I got a bit confused because they have different prices. I mainly use bloomberg.
