Books like Oil 101?
Is anyone aware of other books similar to Oil 101? A book which essentially walks someone through the entire value chain of an entire industry.
I don't think I've ever read a book with as much information per page and I'm wondering if maybe some of the ER guys had read similar books detailing other industries (I've read all the major oil books so no need for any of those).
I'm not a professional - I just want to read some interesting books.
Platt's has some interesting material.. although I can't point you directly to anything since I'm currently at work.
Oil 101 was phenomenal and I don't think there is another book like it.
Though not as value chain focused, the Prize gives a great history of the industry and is a really fascinating read, although a bit long... There are also really great primers on MLPs by WF, and O&G in general by DB... you could likely find them floating around somewhere
Oil: Money, Politics, and Power in the 21st Century by Tom Bower
The Oil and the Glory by Steve LeVine
Oil Politics: A Modern History of Petroleum by Francisco Parra
I am currently reading A Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling, and Production by Hyne. It is clear and entertaining.
Lol guys, I need books for other industries.
Fairly ambiguous post though... It would be helpful for feedback / info purposes if you actually disclosed which industries... there are some I know a bit about and others I know nothing about, which is probably similar to anyone who will have suggestions. Why do you want to read in depth research on bunch of different industries if you want to go into ER? You don't want a broad / flat knowledge base across a bunch of industries... you want to know one industry well... even then, there's no guarantee you will get placed in the industry you follow most.
One of my good friends covers consumer / household product industry and he was a fund analyst at my university's investment fund for power and utilities. Doesn't hurt to learn about other industries but not a necessity to deep dive into a bunch unless you just have a genuine curiosity.
you might want to look at some initiating coverage ER reports as they will typically have a decent industry overview.
Sorry guys, thought my post was clear, guess it wasn't. I'm not a professional, I'd just like to broadly know how certain industries work. For the oil industry, Oil 101 does that job extremely well.
I'd like to know more about these industries: 1) Automotive. 2) Mining. 3) Retail (clothing, I guess).
Healthcare?
Thanks rufio
No problem
