Breaking into ER from RE

I've been interested in breaking into sell-side ER for a while. Trying to get some advice and a bit of motivation. Below is some background info about myself:

Graduated in 2013 from a semi-target. Finance major. Dull GPA, but above 3.0. Working in real estate my entire career. A few years at a global IM firm (promoted), a year-ish at a well known REIT (ton of Excel), and now at a large global IM firm. Don't have a passion for real estate and not too big on the industry in general, and it's a mismatch for my personality

Not sure what kind of expectations to set for myself for finding ER opportunities. What do I absolutely need to have down in order to break in? What are ways to differentiate myself with networking without being a try-hard? What are the interviews like?

Thanks in advance!
