Building Equity Research Team

Hey Everyone,

Looking to explore my options, wondering what your guys' experience is with this stuff. I'm currently a #2 associate on a research team at a MM firm... but I'm looking to make a switch for two reasons. 1. I feel undercompensated because I was hired out of undergrad. 2. I want to be an analyst's first associate and help a new franchise grow.

Where should I be looking...where is this possible? My guess was that it's possible at a smaller shop... sort of if a junior analyst got a bigger opportunity and was looking to build his team and find a longer term associate.
Not really sure... could use some input.

What are some good boutiques/MM shops to look at that are well respected in the research field?
