I'm not too knowledgeable about all of that but I will say that Long Only AM (what you'll end up doing as a CAP Associate) is often the end goal for many people in all spectrums of finance. You'll be in a rotation for two years as a CAP Associate, then you'll join a sector investment team which you would have gained exposure to one or more through your rotations. They obviously have a long term view on their stocks being long-only so not as much focus on quarter by quarter updates and less volatility (blowing up and entire team getting fired) than a hedge fund. Comp is competitive, I think I saw their range on LinkedIn for a NY posting to be between 132K-188K base but this was for a slightly more experienced position. Probably compares to/is a little less than SS ER. Ultimately whether it's worth taking or not depends on your goals - do you find public markets investing interesting enough to make a career out of? If not, then you might want to do the IB-PE route. It should also have a significantly better WLB than any IB/PE job. This is all from conversations I've had with someone in this program.

EDIT: Their reputation is also pristine, literally one of (if not the best) long-only asset managers out there, and being private as opposed to the public LOs is helpful as well. People who get in investing roles here do not tend to leave.

Applied for this program last year and got through two rounds. Extremely competitive. They are only looking to take around 15-20 per year and usually about half of those are diversity. Interviews are entirely behavioral.

I know for a fact that CG only directly promotes CAP associates directly to investment analyst. Experienced hires to their pre-MBA associate program do not get promoted to analyst, just the way they run things over there. And you work way less hours than you would in IB.

A few wrong comments on here. For their LA office they typically take less than 10 a year most coming from the internship program. You can lateral to analyst role. Most CAP associates don’t become equity analysts.

Got to the last round but no offer (a past year)... interviews seem to be on a rolling basis. Interviews were heavily behavioral and quite difficult (they dig into every response, especially abt past work experiences, and don't take any bullshit).

I would have personally taken the offer over any other. Asking "would you take this position over BB IB" doesn't make a whole lot of sense due to the distinct differences. If you are excited by fundamental research, long investment horizons, and desire a career in LO AM then CG is the best possible landing spot. If you want to work in PE or Corp Strat/Dev longer-term, then BB IB is your best bet... there is a reason why people stay at CG for 20+ years. I would recommend doing some research into investment approach and funds on CG's website.

Around 8-15 ppl in the program each year and many get their MBA afterwards. Definitely not a direct pathway to a research/investment position at CG afterwards. The program is geared towards diversity applications or young graduates with atypical backgrounds. I think base was around 90-95k ish in CA. Wouldn't worry about comp because having CG on resume will open up many doors in LO and you will be working with the smartest investors in their respective sectors.

@forbiddenpanda

May I send you a DM for some questions? Going to speak with the Equities team. Thanks!
