Economic Consulting to Equity Research possible?

I just received my first job offer from a niche economic consulting firm that deals with securities, valuation, and antitrust policy. It is small and appears to be very prestigious as the dean of a top ten b-school works there and they have other well known experts. I am from a non-target school and ideally wanted to pursue a career in equity research. Another area I was interested in is IB. Since they deal with valuation and mergers, I thought I would be able to easily transfer into equity research or IB, but after reading some posts on here I'm not sure. I have also received interviews with 3 of the top 4 credit rating agencies and am currently going through the interview process with them. I'm wondering if it is possible to leverage the experience I get in this firm into IB or equity research without pursuing an MBA? I did intern at UBS as well for close to two years, however it was in wealth management and I had a 4.0 major gpa and 3.5 overall.

Not an analysis group. I'd rather not disclose the name since very little information is posted on the internet about the company. However, as I said it is a niche economic consulting firm and is small. It is not one of the more well known firms when you think of economic consulting but the experts have worked on some of the largest cases in the US.
