Economics Research vs Emerging Mkts Research vs Equity Research

Hi all, for someone who has been in academia for some time, I am exploring the realm of research to see if its for me.

Could someone give me some +ve and -ves working in Economics Research vs Emerging Mkts Research vs Equity Research. Does it only depend on which interests you?

From what I know Economics Research and Emerging Mkts Research are very similar - looking at global indicators, making projections and macro overviews.

ER is more micro, looking at companies and you will need a CFA in order to progress. Because frankly I would not want to spend time pursuing any more further qualifications considering I already have a few under my belt and I will like a tool on my resume.

Also, what are the exit opps for ER and is ER a dying trade because I have heard that ER is being farmed out to India and banks are already considering this division as a cost factor.

Any info would be great - lifestyle, exit opps, +ves and -ves.

Thanks!
