Equity Analyst Informational interview ?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently an undergrad studying finance at a non-target school and I am attempting to network my way into a buy-side internship for this upcoming summer. Does anyone have any good tips for when I am setting up meetings/calls with PM's and analysts?

Here's some background as to why I am actively networking as hard as I am: -3.0 cumulative -3.65 major -No internships in the field -Non target school

I know specifically why I want to get into equity research at a buy-side firm, but should I bring up my knowledge during chats or centralize the conversation on their achievements(whoever I'm chatting with)? I don't necessarily want to come off as needing an internship, but I definitely want to attract them to possibly take a chance with me.

Also--I am currently a junior. I got accepted into my schools financial markets program, but the program doesn't begin until my senior year, which is why I have no REAL experience on my resume. Once the program starts, I can at least put down student equity analyst.

Any help is appreciated!

Start by checking alumni that are on the buyside if any. From there I would really focus on knowing what investment style you're interested in (value, growth, garp, etc.) as well as any particular sector. Being able to speak at a high level about these things convey interest and the person on the other end is likely to want to help you. I would focus on learning about them first and see where the convo goes from there. It's possible they'll ask basic question to see your level of understanding
