ER FTs overwhelmingly come from the SA program, similar to any other FO division. Especially the big banks, which, unlike for IB, control most of the ER scene. Unlike in IB, there's far less seats overall, not to mention those to hand to non-SA converters - an ER div might take 5-10x less analysts than IBD. In fact in my experience, a lot of the time there aren't any seats left - at least for outsiders, different if you're already in the bank in IBD (e.g. IBD SA that wants to shift gears).

So it's not impossible, and your experience will definitely be considered relevant, but it's mainly a problem of logistics.
