Equity Research In Calgary

Hi:

Can anyone shed some light on breaking into ER in Calgary. I have been looking browsing the job boards, not that many positions available to even apply to. I graduated from a Canadian Target, 3.7 GPA, got some decent experience in the Oil and Gas sector and am going to take level III CFA. Currently just finished an interview with a BB for an ER position. In case I don't hear back, wondering if anyone's got some takes on the market.

thanks,

There's generally a lot of turnover in the ER market, especially in Oil and Gas, as companies compete for the best. I personally know of a recruiter that's looking to fill 3 or 4 associate or analyst positions there at the moment.

What 2012 will look like... who knows? That said, there isn't a lot of "growth" left in the market, other than the occasional mid-market or boutique firm that wants to get into it. The established teams at banks, etc. are not growing - and may be shrinking in this economy.

Interview processes are also highly variable - but I'd expect nothing shorter than 2-3 weeks.

Thank you, that will help. I have someone refer me to a recruiter that deals in the area as well but if you would be willing to pm me your contact i'd appreciate it. Thanks
