ER Internship Advice

How would I go about getting an ER internship my fresh. year?

Just cold emailing/ calling MMs/ Boutiques and hoping ot get lucky, are the chances really slim?

When is it too late to start sending out emails for the summer?

Is ER out of the question for a fresh. and if so is PWM the only option, I don't have any fiannce experience, but I do have some with Equity markets. As I know a decent amout of how to pick stocks and run a portfolio. Not trying to say I am an expert but I would know what I am talking about in an interview.

Is this for buy-side, sell-side, or independent ER? Makes a lot of difference?

Bearing in mind your HF internship thread, I'd repeat what I said before: it's all about working for free. PWM is traditionally thought of as a good starting point for a first internship, depends where you live/if you know anyone.

And I think you have certainly missed the boat for this summer, most programs/desks will have been filled for a month or so by now.

Not to drown your hopes or anything, but you're not getting an internship as a freshman. If you really want to have an internship this early in your college career, PWM might be your best bet. The best advice I can give you is to keep your GPA high, network over the next year or two, and it will put you in a position to land an ER internship or HF internship or IB internship. Don't worry about getting experience so early on and enjoy college. It'll be the best four years of your life.

Here is your action plan little homie - get a local bb or mm pwm internship this summer. Hit up all the locals. Propose an unpaid internship. This internshio is what u make it so try to do 50% something eq rsrch related (covering stocks, writing summaries for your fa, build a model n the side and present it who gives a fck) - identify which fnance prof at ur uni needs help with an equity research finance paper, beg him to be his research assoc this summer - during all of this network like a fiend, cold email all your alums, never come off as a jnow it all just that ur interested, to get you that eq rsrch spot for soph summer. - alternatively make sure to scour the earth and ur local hf or er shops to see if u can do an unpaid durin school, may be tuff for e sunner now After all this ur resume will be sufficient ly interestng - keep grades up

Alright I was just making sure. For some reason I was under the impression that I needed an internship freshman year summer. I actually already have an abroad internship under my belt at Barclays PLC as a group finance intern. So not doing something this summer won't really hurt me. Maybe I will just caddy make some money and take a summer class.

I do have one more thing in the works though and would like an opinion: My supervisor's at works brother in law works at Bar Cap in NY and she said she would talk to him about getting me something there. Im assuming if there is any opportunity there that I should take it, right? and is it okay if I sent out emails to barclays employees in DC to see if I could intern, or would all of this be more beneficial as a sophomore?

You should get an internship. Don't caddy/take classes. Everyone is just saying that it probably won't be great or front office or even paid. Just get something in finance even if it is unpaid. Resume filler.
