EVR ISI Analyst Placement + Biotech Odds?
I know Evercore ISI doesn’t recruit based on group, and I was wondering if anyone had any insight on how they typically go about placing summer associates with analysts?
Also, I know Evercore ISI has a strong biotech presence and I was wondering if anyone had insight on my odds of placing into a biotech coverage group at the firm out of undergrad? I’m interested in biotech, but I’m not sure if it’s something I should push for and how I would go about it seen as I didn’t make it well known in the interview process.
All help is appreciated!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Evercore ISI does not recruit directly into specific groups for summer associates, and placement with analysts typically happens during or after the internship process. Networking and expressing your interest early on during the internship can play a significant role in influencing your placement. Building relationships with analysts and showcasing your interest in biotech through your work and conversations can help you stand out.
Regarding biotech, Evercore ISI indeed has a strong presence in this sector. If you're interested in joining a biotech coverage group, it's advisable to start signaling your interest as soon as possible. Even though you didn't highlight it during the interview process, you can still demonstrate your passion by engaging with biotech-related projects, reading up on the sector, and discussing your interest with mentors or colleagues during the internship. This proactive approach can improve your odds of being placed in a biotech group.

Just through looking at Linkedin, anything Biotech or Healthcare related they choose people with Pre-Med backgrounds only so unless you're majoring in that field you won't place within that coverage. No SA ER I know recruits based on group so it isn't unique to ISI. I don't know how you'll be placed, but from my understanding for full-time it will be based on availability of seats rather than you choosing which coverage vertical you will go in to. That means if they don't think they have availability of seats full-time as in there wasn't enough churn or groups didn't expand there's no return offer. ISI and ER roles in general are good at keeping headcount low for SA's to guarantee placement for full-time so I wouldn't be worried, just go in with the mentality that you won't have as much of a say on what coverage vertical you will be placed in. I'm sure there's a preference form upon entry though.
