Future of fundamental equity roles

For those actually in this industry, what are your views on the fundamental equity investment roles? Do you believe it’s a good place to build a long-term career?

The reason I ask is because I am extremely interested in becoming a fundamental equity analyst on the buy-side. I’ve secured an IB SA gig at a BB this summer, the first of many steps I plan on taking to get to where I want. However, I don’t know how sustainable a career in fundamental equity investing is, whether it be due to the natural volatility of the job itself or a structural trend of the industry (or both), and want to hear some of your thoughts.
