Garden Leave Conundrum - can new co verify garden leave period?

I am moving from one BB to another BB in sell-side research. Is there a way for the new BB to verify what my garden leave is with old BB or can I say whatever I want? The role is for an Associate.

I personally wouldn't lie. Your current employer is pretty much restricted to only confirming that you're a current employee and the amount of time that you've been with the firm, so I wouldn't worry about them disclosing the specific dates. That said, there's a non-negligible chance that the two groups interact with each other and people do talk. Just seems needlessly risky IMO, you'd probably be better off just negotiating more time (I assume this is the greater question at play).

Thank you for the response! I already did the stupid thing of giving a later date for when my garden leave ends. Wondering if there is a way to walk back from it, or just cross my fingers and hope nothing goes wrong.

"garden leave" typically means that you are still technically an "employee" of the old firm (you just have no access to anything...no email...no building access, etc...but still on the payroll...still have health insurance)

so, a firm could verify that you are still an employee...but nobody ever checks these things...go enjoy your vaca

just google it...you're welcome
