Help With Data Mining

This isn't wholly ER related, but I have a final round job interview Friday as a Research Analyst and was asked to prepare a presentation with research. The sector I'm researching is the US Oil & Nat Gas Industry, but the companies products serve as a complement to drilling, i.e. they aren't directly involved with drilling or exploration.

They've asked me to project the market potential and their opportunities, which has been easy and I'm essentially done with, but also the industry makeup, competitors and market share of each.

The problem lies in that all of the companies are private and data is extremely hard to come by, so I'm hard pressed to find good data. Does anyone have any tips as to help finding the necessary information? If I could get some data on a few companies, I could surely reverse engineer what I need, but getting that first bit of data is my main challenge.

If you want more info, feel free to PM me, any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
