How many of you are looking to exit into your industry?
Curious to see how many of you equity research associates/analysts plan on leaving at some point (short term or long term) to transition into a corporate role in the industry you cover. If you are, in what capacity (strategy, corp fin, IR) and how do you plan on getting there? MBA, contacts, etc.?
Something tells me it's not so easy to do, with the exception of IR. It seems as though research guys fall below banking/consulting in the pecking order.
It's pretty easy to go corporate as you already know the entire management team and sometimes on a personal basis. You might have some compliance issues though if you make the switch while actively covering them. I love talking to IR who were former sell side analysts because they know what we want and usually the most transparent with information.
Granted, ER -> IR happens all the time. I'm more curious about ER -> corp dev/strategy transitions, either with a company you cover or one in the same industry that you don't cover.
