How to get into ER and better than IB?
hi so recently i’ve been thinking that i want to pursue a career in Equity Research but unsure what the role itself entails or even how to get started. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am also concerned though, that if I do pursue a route like this I won’t be able to get exit ops and my goal is most likely VC.
You should be gunning for consulting, Product Management, strategy and operations or a smaller VC firm if you want to pursue something VC related. ER revolves around the public markets and not VC unless a VC company goes public. There are notable people in ER that went to VC but that was in the early days of VC. You might be able to get a IR role at VC firm or fund but the ER to VC path is not common unless you decide to get an MBA that places well into VC. Look online to see what equity research entails as a role. This is a very lazy post and most of the answers you're looking for are one click away and don't need to be answered on this forum as they are everywhere online. Do your own research.
