Ideas on how to combine ER with M&A in thesis?

Hi,

I'm currently doing my MSc in Finance, and seeing as I'm interested in M&A and equity research, and still not 100% sure which career path i'll choose, I want to pick a thesis topic that combines the two as much as possible.

Because I'm still at the start of my degree, and my undergrad was in econ, I don't feel that I know enough quite yet to make an informed decision, without suggestions.

Next term I will have a class in M&A, a class in private equity and hopefully one in investment analysis as well, so that will help a lot.

Could you guys please offer some suggestions on interesting thesis topics that would combine both of the above?

Cheers!

Boreed,

I'm not sure the parameters of your thesis, but I would think doing an analysis of strategic acquisitions within a specific sector may be what you're looking for. This would involve a lot of research on the sector itself as well as M&A activity (I'd exclude financial buyers) and the results of the activity.

A case study on companies analysts have stated may be an acquisition target (how often are they correct in a given window?)

A comparison of acquisition price vs. consensus ER target share prices
