Internship Interview on short notice

Hello,

I have been working full time in operations for almost a year now but have been interviewing for IB FT and internship positions as of recently.

ER is my second preference as a career and through networking I was able to schedule an interview later this week.

I'm confident in my ability to answer all the typical behavioural questions as I thoroughly prepared for my previous ib interviews.

I'm also confident in the technical topics that are covered in ib interviews for somebody with no front office experience yet.

However, I'm worried that I might be asked for a stock pitch in this interview. I'm not sure if that is something typically reserved for FT ER positions or it is fair game for internship interveiws as well.

I'm also not sure if the fact that I have been working for almost a year will affect how my candidacy is perceived in terms of what they may expect me to know.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you want to work in ER pitching a stock - or like 5 or a general theme in the markets - should not be a problem. If you can't do this (ie. if you aren't following some companies or a sector or a trend in your free time), reconsider if ER is right for you.

Going to echo this. For ER internships stock pitches are not just fair game they are pretty much a prerequisite. Start reading up my friend and good luck

If you can get the technical questions for IB then you should be fine for whatever technicals they toss at you. You should focus on getting a pitch down.

I interview guys regularly at our bank (MM) and I always ask them if they follow any stocks. The natural transition is then why they're interested in those stocks and what they think is a good buy. Just about every interview I've been in for ER has also involved a stock pitch. We're looking for enthusiasm and interest in the markets and a general gauge of what you know coming into the job.

Most pitches are actually pretty bad, but I mostly expect that from candidates. People that come in with a great stock pitch and it doesn't seem like it was just jacked from someone's report (as in, they can withstand some questioning) can really differentiate themselves from the other guys in my mind. So I would definitely work on your stock pitch if you've got the technicals down.
