Job offer decision

I received an exploding ER offer as a first year at a reputable MM bank. I'm also in the early stage of interviewing with a large AM shop (think the likes of Fidelity) for a research position. Need to give a yes/no to the ER offer soon. Should I take the ER offer or shoot for the AM job? I'd like to be on the buy side in the long term. Advice/insights are appreciated.

What's the timeline on the ER offer? What qualifies as early stage of interviewing? First round interview done but haven't heard back? I would get on the phone with the AM ASAP and tell them you really want to be there, but you have an offer from [insert reputable MM bank ER name here] that that you can't turn down without assurances and that you would like to accelerate your recruiting process to be done by [exploding offer date]. If they say no, then take the MM offer and continue to stay in contact, maybe you recruit with them during your job and pick up where you left off. If they say yes, I'd take the AM job (provided its the right fit, you get solid responsibility, etc) if your end goal is buy side.

Thanks PIKBIM. By "early stage" I meant I didn't even have a first round yet, only chatted with the recruiter who presented me with the job opening. It's virtually impossible for me to move through the AM interview process before my ER offer explodes. Although I'm certain I can enter the first round because of alum referral, winning the final round is not a given. I think I'd let the recruiter know of my interest/situation and stay in touch.
