After Final Interview with mid-size firm... they are still interviewing 2 other people after me.
CEO/CIO responds to my thank you email with "regardless of our decision, I'm sure you'll make a good investment research analyst."
In my eyes, that's the sign that they KNOW you aren't the one and trying to let you down easy ahead of time. Curses.
my last interviewer said "I'm sure u'll do very well wherever u go"
he's my current boss now. only diff is that i think i heard this before the final interview. there's still hope, but yea i wouldn't be too hopeful lol
At the end of my interview two weeks ago, my interviewer wished me luck in my job search. My reaction was "fuck, guess I'm not getting this job". Turns out I'm advancing to the next round. I wouldn't read too much into it.
It means basically nothing. I've been wished "best of luck in your future endeavors" only to be offered FT. Management isn't allowed to say anything either way about if you got the offer before HR contacts you so they often respond with something super generic. In my experience, if it's going to be a no, then there's no response to the email (although that's not always what no response means).
I'd like to reiterate my comments from your previous thread and add a personal experience at the same time. I know it's anecdotal and will likely do nothing to assuage your fears, but I'll give it a try anyway.
Before I took my current job I interviewed at a small fund in which I knew absolutely no one before walking in to the office for my first interview.
I first met with a group of three analysts and then the Founder/PM/CIO. He interviewed me for longer than an hour and looked throughly unimpressed by literally everything I said. At the end he said he had no doubt that I was a smart kid and I would do well in whatever I choose to do and that I should keep in touch. I did just that -- I sent him an interesting interview/article, whatever I could find every few weeks after that of which ZERO he responded to. I few months later I received an email from him and the senior analyst saying that the hiring process was going slower than they had expected and asked if it was ok if they forwarded my resume to some of their friends who may be hiring as they really liked me. About two weeks later a fund they forwarded my resume to invited me in for an interview and ended up giving me an offer about a week later. During this time the first fund ended up getting back in touch with me and offered me the position I had originally interviewed for.
So, I ended up getting offers from two different funds because one guy thought I wasn't an idiot.
The moral of my story is to not worry about anything you can't control and to do your best no matter what because you never know what's going to come of it. Being nice to people and asserting yourself doesn't hurt either.
Well, didn't get the job. Go figure. Thanks for the advice all, especially 'Simple As..." That was the first attempt to break into ER. 0-1.
