Landing ER interviews vs IB interviews?

Hi all. I am an undergrad at a non-target, although one with a growing alumni base at top firms. I thought I wanted to do IB for a long time, but upon looking more into equity research I feel as though it may be the better fit for me. Looking to break in as a SA in 2021.

A couple questions that I keep having. How is getting an interview in ER through networking compared to banking?

And knowing that there are less positions every summer in ER than IBD, am wondering if some of the stereotypes about ER interns are valid. In the sense that if I am not a super academic investor, a quant wizard, have already done 4 internships, etc. type of thing will I even stand a chance?

I have good grades (3.7 GPA in Honors), am in student investment fund and ib fo prep program (for er and s&t too not just ibd), follow the markets very closely, read a decent share of finance books(~1-2 a month), have my own portfolio (albeit a very small one) that is performing decently well, and I have done several comprehensive stock pitches that have required due diligence, market research, modeling, etc.

Is this enough, or do I need to be doing more to stand a chance versus the stereotypical candidates (if that stereotype is even valid)?
