Lateralling within ER

It was recently communicated to me that I would not be receiving a raise in base (salary freeze) following a very disappointing bonus. I was already paid 10k below street IMO so this leaves me 20K below street and well below street bonus. FYI, I work for a highly regarded MM/boutique. I'm pre MBA so I know that experience outweighs money but it is frustrating to see my peers earn 50+% more for the same job and have concluded that I need to seek other options.

Does anyone have experience applying for ER jobs while currently employed in ER? It's a small community and I fear that a job search could lead to my demise. While I really like my analyst, they were taken care of financially due to a guarantee, hence have no incentive to pursue other opportunities and would not approve of my search. There are openings to work for well respected/ranked analysts in my or related sectors right now and I would like to contact them and apply. What would be the best way to do this without having it get back to my analyst/firm?

Take some time off from the ganga, start bringing work home with you, and I'm thinking you will shoot ahead of everyone withine a year.....

Get busy living

HR just likely put you into a bucket based on your review and your last year's comp - so switching groups within your bank is unlikely to make any difference as your pay next year is a function of your pay this year plus a narrow band. Frankly, if your group didn't take care of you in a guarantee year they never will. There is absolutely nothing wrong with interviewing, if your boss finds out just bring up the compensation issue in a polite conversation.

When I said underpaid compared to peers, I didn't mean coworkers. I meant the street. My salary isn't a representation of performance but my firm just isn't doing that well right now (cash equities are down across the street). At my firm, associate pay and bonus are solely a matter of experience so there's no opportunity to stand out, which is frustrating. Other associates I've talked to also want to move. So back to the point, has anyone lateraled within ER?
