Life Insurance Underwriting - Exit Opportunities?.

Background: I got a degree in Political Science and Business from a semi target French university and I'm studying a masters in Finance. I worked for 1 year as a business developer for a well known European company in the savings, retirement and investment department (life insurances, unit linked, investment funds, pension funds, reverse mortgages).

Yesterday I got an offer to work as a life insurance underwriter for Allianz , is a temporal 1 year contract so I would have to stop my studies for now but since is temporal I think is worth trying.

The real question: I would like to work as an investment or financial markets analyst or equity research , I could even consider investment banking , as a result , I would like to know if some experience as a life insurance underwriter is worth it, is it a good opportunity to learn more about financial markets and investment products?. and finally, exit opportunities? , can underwriting help me get into investment analysis or even equity research?.

Thank you very much for your help

So I’d say anything is possible but I wouldn’t think a typical exit opp. from underwriting would be an investment analyst role. More likely would be some sort of business development or sales role where you’re handling underwriting accounts or trying to pitch new business.

With that said, a benefit of working there is having the Allianz email address, so therefore if you wanted to try and network with someone in say Allianz Global Investors the email would not be coming from some random gmail account. Perhaps, that could be an approach to trying to move into asset management.
