Messaging clients to get a job
I currently work in sell-side equity research at a mid-market bank in London. I am looking to move onto the buyside and have built good relationships with a number of the bank's clients. Is there anything wrong with contacting these clients from my personal email suggesting I'd love to work for them? What about if they are a client of the bank but I've never spoken to them? Will I be dismissed if this email finds it way back to the bank?

I work in tech, but it sounds like a terrible idea, just from a business-practice perspective. Seems like a recipe for bridge burning. Especially if you plan to stay at the bank until you go buy-side. I would go the traditional route, with a headhunter or whatever.
With that said, I know nothing about the nuances of etiquette in the IB world.
