MS Commodities Analyst Internship Essay?

Hey guys,

Anyone on here apply for commodities analyst internship at MS? Got an email a few weeks ago to submit an "application supplement" (essay about oil/energy/ etc...6 options to choose from) and was wondering if anyone else has gone through this process before/ is going through it now. I know the BB are using new methods to filter out the absurd amount of applicants (GS virtual interview etc.), so was just curious if this is something new for MS/ has always been done. Essentially just curious to know where I stand (I'm sure I still have a long way to go). Thanks in advance.

I have a friend who gave some insight on this. While this is a relatively new feature for MS, it is basically an overall aptitude test of general knowledge directly correlated with what you may or may not already know.

It is not graded such as similar exams, but rather on a pass/fail scaling system.

I am not familiar with every option, but a quick tip is just to find investment bank newsletters, such as specific commodity projections and insights, read through those and try to form your own opinion. More especially, if your entire essay is derived from such reports, you will have no problem passing through the filter and moving onto the next stage.

Good luck, I am sure you will do fine, and also keep in mind there is going to be dozens of others who do not even bother to do the essay. Also, you said you received this a few weeks ago? I would submit it sooner rather than later, to hopefully move onto the next round before other applicants, i.e more offers to be given out if you are first. However, that last sentence is pure speculation but I am sure it doesn't hurt to keep it in mind.

You can absolutely finish this in a few hours. Good luck I am sure you will do very well
