Potential to move to ER?

I have been at a f500 biotech company for about 3.5 years. I’ve worked in Corp Fp&a/IR and clinical trial finance. I don’t hate my job but have always been interested in moving to ER. I was curious of the feasibility of making a move at some point to the research side given my background. I, unfortunately, don’t have much pedigree with my education as I went to an extreme non target to chase the dream of playing college soccer and then bought into getting an mba right after as a grad assistant at another non target. Free school but useless for recruiting.

I know a lot of biotech research folks have PhD’s or MD’s or come from Healthcare IB backgrounds so I wanted to test the water and see if this is something that may be feasible.

OP,

Could you comment on what your compensation has been the last couple years? I’m always curious what industries outside of banking pay.

As to your question, I’ve seen lots of industry experts make the move to equity research in their field of expertise. It’s much less competitive than IB and knowing your industry is an attractive quality, since anyone can learn the basic finance concepts for ER.
