Research Associate Analyst vs Research Associate

inside the bank, an entry level Analyst and Associate are similar in an ER department.. outside the bank, they are all known as "associates"... there is only one "Analyst" per sector and that is the lead analyst on the team (usually a managing director). People usually get created with these titles to embelish their linkedin titles.

Associate Analyst has been used as a title between Associate and Senior Analyst at multiple firm's I've worked at including one bulge bracket. It generally represents an Associate who is beginning to pick up some of his/her own coverage under the umbrella of a senior analyst. Pretty common I believe.

Never heard of this before. Always thought either you're an Associate or an Analyst. This is becoming to look like - "Yes, I'm currently an Analyst VP MD CEO at JPM"

Silly equity research titling conventions!

At some banks like the european ones, the associate title will be used but at most american banks 1st years are "analysts" and then the usual is "lead analyst" which is comparable to VP in other fields

Some of the banks and even buy side firms do this to denote somebody between an associate (entry level) and analyst (generally post MBA).

Ding ding ding. It's a feel-good measure the firms give out. I also had several colleagues do it when I was an associate to impress MBA admissions committees, even though it was absolutely meaningless.
