Secular Coverage

So I have been interning for a buy side firm doing ER for the last few months. I have been recently given coverage of one sector. Problem is most of the this sector is either private or filed for chapter 11. I am going to do research on all the private companies websites. Any other advice in finding other information on these private companies? Also, another than finding why these companies filed for chapter 11, would it be even worth my time digging into them? I want to crush this assignment.
