Some general questions

I am a Junior who will be applying to summer internships in the coming month. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for the number of firms someone should apply to: should I just to as many as I can or should I limit it so as not to overwhelm myself if I, hopefully, get interviews for many of them?

This brings me to my second question. Some ER divisions recruit at my school but some banks with ER divisions recruit but not for ER: is it good/possible to apply to them through their own website or should I stick to only what they are recruiting for specifically (I might make a few IBD applications in this case)?
