Unconventional exit ops for ER?
How many years of experience in ER is the ideal amount before leaving? Can you go to PE/ VC / infra fund? How much does ER sector coverage impact this? Is it more easily doable if in industrials / energy/ semis etc?

There is no opportune time to leave. ER is not like IB. From a pure comp perspective, it probably makes sense after Y2. From a "readiness" or demand perspective, I've literally seen no major difference in relative volume in the amount of exits out of the industry at any level.
ER to PE / VC is extremely rare. It's not normally a case of brute forcing it either, it's really "does the PE firm want an ER person", which is usually no.
Infra I've never seen. But haven't actually looked either.
If you want to work in private markets, go work in IBD. There's no good workaround here.
Is it rare because people aren’t trying or due to sector specific nuances etc?
It's rare because PE wants IBers.
No sector specific nuances are gonna make that change lol
I've seen a very select few go into VC after a couple years in ER, but never PE.
ER -> Structured PC
anything is possible brother
