Howard Senior Finance major here…yes Howard places very well with a lot of firm as it is an high recognized and accredited school. As far as high finance goes, GS, Citi, and Barclays I would say recruits the most from Howard. MS, JPM, and BOFA are companies that you’d have to go after by cold networking and coffee chatting. As far as private equity goes, the only firms that directly recruits from Howard is Blackstone and Warburg and they literally JUST started recruiting from us last year so they’re isn’t much of a pipeline at those firms either. You’re pretty much a shoe in for any of the big 4 firm (EY, PWC, etc)

Schools like BYU also place very well but it's heavily due to a mormon network, as in you have to be mormon to take advantage of it. Can't help but feel it will be a similar situation at Howard. If u aren't an URM (black, hispanic, native, female) you won't qualify for any DEI programs so make sure the network is going to be welcoming towards you

Agree with this, the culture at BYU or a HBCU as an international student who doesn't fit the "norms" of those schools will be VERY tough. You have to enjoy college... if you are miserable for 4 years you're probably not going to do very well in recruiting.

The schools you named are solid starts, OP I would look up the semi target list or semi target state school list as those are going to be easier to fit into as an international student.

if you aren't black it probably won't benefit you. It's like THE point of an HBCU lol. Also you might have trouble meshing with the student body as one of the few non black kids walking around, do you really want to play that game in this political climate?

The Howard pipeline is network dependent, the school isn't known for it's rigorous academics or highly intelligent students. It's an SMU in the sense that their alumnis will go to bat for them. Ig they have a DEI deal with the banks or something but you are not going to have an easier time landing a role than the black kid from a H/Y/P/W.

Howard isn’t a core target for IB in the same way as Ivy or top state feeders, but it’s not a dead end either. The pipeline exists mostly through diversity programs and alumni hustle, not automatic OCR. For high finance, outcomes depend heavily on your GPA, internships, networking, and whether you land early diversity or sophomore programs. DC helps for policy, consulting, and some internships, but for IB you’ll likely need to network into NYC hard. A full ride is a great position to be in, just go in knowing you’ll need to be proactive and realistic about the path.
