There is nothing wrong with having goals and wanting to reach a certain echelon in life. Removing people from your day to day that don't share the same interests - like building businesses or work - is all a part of growing up and apart.

However, it sounds like you really don't know what you want and have lot the motivation. I would really suggest seeing a therapist and discussing this with them if you have the time - you aren't doing yourself or your goals any favours by operating at a mental discount to your own potential.

Best of luck to you my man, and treat yourself better. If you don't, who will.

Thanks for the reply,

I did see one for a couple months and dropped him. He was telling me everything about myself that I already know.

And you’re right, I am through the roof motivated, however, I don’t know where to put it. I have done banking internships but the latter of working up to MD seems excessively long

Glad you think it’s funny. No one wakes up one morning and chases money like this. The ambition and obsession is almost all of the time deeply routed in previous traumatic experiences. Suck a dick.

The first dollars you make buy you freedom. After you get to a certain amount, all it buys you is meaningless toys, pretentious meals and vacation upgrades.

Decide how much money you need to feel like you can do whatever you want. Push that number as low as you can. It doesn’t have to be enough retire do nothing. Just enough cushion that you can tell your job to fuck off if push comes to shove. A few years of spending $ is enough for some, and others will want a little more. It’s case by case.

But make that number as small as you can and bust your ass to get there. Once it gets closer, you’re done worrying about money and it’s time to start thinking big.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
