Analyst 1 Essential Wardrobe

Gonna start as an analyst this summer. Looking to invest into a wadrobe. It's a business formal enviroment for 5 days a week. Is this sufficient?

  • 2 Suits with 2 pants each (navy and another dark blue suit, I'm not a fan of charcoal)
  • 8 white shirts (again I prefer white)
  • 3 Ties
  • 1 pair of black oxfords

I was planning on buying "iron free" shirts and doing them myself. I hated walking to the dryer during my free day, especially since it already closed at 10am.

You need more odd slacks, since you most likely won't be in a suit everyday. You should also pickup a sportjacket. Unless you mean business formal as in they actually mean it, then get three suits, two trousers for each, 4-5 more ties , 7-10 pairs of otc socks, and at least another pair of shoes.

Also I'd invest in higher quality suits but skimp on shirts for now, because they're white, you're young and sweaty, and you'll drip stuff on it at dinner/in the bar more frequently than you think you will.

You can survive with three ties, but doubling that doesn't change the cost too much (eg. brooks was selling three ties for 99 or so, which is 3 for 1 under normal circumstances. Or just go on ebay if you know what to look for) yet opens up a lot more combinations. You don't want to end up being known as the kid who wears the same tie everyday. In this case I think having more options helps prevent you from standing out, which is the point of a conservative wardrobe for a new analyst. Also, giving each tie a week to "breathe" and unwrinkle helps keep things tidy.
