Banker Attire 2025

I like to consider myself stylish but pretty basic when it comes to work attire (ie. Bonobos pants, Charles Thyrwhitt shirts, Barbour coats, Peter Millar quarterzips). Would love to hear what people are wearing these days across the street and items that are worth investing.

Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of what’s trending and considered appropriate for banker attire in 2025:

  1. Shirts: Charles Tyrwhitt remains a popular choice for dress shirts, especially for their quality and fit. They’re a staple for many in finance, offering a polished yet comfortable look.

  2. Pants: Bonobos pants are a solid pick, known for their tailored fit and versatility. They pair well with both formal and business casual outfits.

  3. Outerwear: Barbour coats are a classic investment, especially for colder months. They strike a balance between style and functionality, making them a favorite among professionals.

  4. Layering: Peter Millar quarter-zips are still a go-to for layering, particularly in business casual settings. They’re stylish, comfortable, and add a touch of sophistication.

  5. Watches: According to "The Banker's Guide to Watches" on WSO, investing in a quality timepiece is a smart move. Brands like Omega, Rolex, and Tag Heuer are frequently mentioned as status symbols in the industry.

  6. Shoes: While not explicitly mentioned in the context, Allen Edmonds and similar brands are often recommended for their durability and professional appearance.

If you’re looking to elevate your wardrobe further, consider investing in mid-to-upper-tier suit brands (as highlighted in WSO threads) and ensuring your attire aligns with the conservative yet stylish norms of the industry.

Twillory and Bonobos for me. Both have cotton-poly blend shirts with significant stretch. Granted they are not as stretchy/comfy as the pure four-way stretch shirts, but the 4W shirts make me sweat more in the summer because they are typically a polyester-spandex blend (neither of which are breathable fabrics e.g. cotton). Thus I'm trying to balance breathability but still have meaningfully more stretch than pure cotton shirts.

Acknowledge that Twill quality is not the same as Mizzen Main MoS or Bon but they're also cheaper (~$100 instead of ~$130). Suppose it depends on what you are looking for + willing to shell out dollar-wise.

Suitsupply shirts, they're pricey but some of the Egyptian cotton blends are so comfortable and breathable.

I actually have been loving J Crew for pants, I stay away from athletic materials and opt for cotton slacks. Real suit pants are too formal for my office environment so these are the right in-between.

Also for shoes, I have a few pairs of Meermin loafers, they are so sleek, I find AE and other American brands to be too bulky and heavy.

Need to upgrade my bag, I just use my banker duffle like a tool but I just haven't found a laptop carrying case that I love.

Invested in a Tumi last year and I haven't regretted it at all. If you are more into tote style bags Sid Mashburn makes a great one.

How are those Meermin loafers holding up? They are at a great price point and they look great.
