Bespoke Suits and Shirts in Bangkok or Hanoi

Question

I'll be traveling in Asia next month before starting work full-time in August and am looking to buy some high quality, well-made clothing for my wardrobe. While I intend to buy most of my shirts and a suits at home (in the US), I also want to explore buying some cheap custom options while abroad.

Does anyone have experience with specific tailors in Bangkok or Hanoi? Is one city preferable over the other? What should I be looking out for (I've never purchased a custom suit before)? Is this advisable at all? Or should I just sack up and pay for the more expensive options in NYC?

I had a similar trip in Hong Kong and China the summer before I started HBS, and loaded up on custom suits/shirts at a tailor a friend from work recommended. A few things to keep in mind:

1) Make sure you find a tailor that has top-quality fabrics and uses quality construction techniques. If you perfectly-fitting suit is made of cheap fabrics and fused linings, it's not going to make the impression you're going for, and won't last very long.

Straight to Sukhumvit Road. A lot of choice, and good quality. 
Btw, there's an image that comes in my mind whenever I think about Bangkok: at the very beginning of the trip a lot off ppl without luggage, at the end at least 3 out of 4 ppl with fancy suits and a tons of luggage full of shirts, suits and so on. I was stunned!

Tom's, Sukhumvit Soi 8. Contact them before you go and they'll send a car to your hotel. Don't go to the other "Tom's" in a different part of town and whatever you do definitely don't let the sketchy Indian guys hanging outside no name shops pull you in. Was there last year and paid about $1100 for 2 suits, a blazer, and 5 shirts, all custom made. A bit more than some of the other places in BKK but great quality and stoll a hell of a lot cheaper than what you'd pay on the US/UK.
