Brown Loafers at Business Frat rush?
Hi guys, I'm trying to make a good impression at my business frat rush and while I do have black dress shoes, I think my plain brown loafers look better (plus I can show off my socks). Is it considered unprofessional to wear loafers with my suit to an event like this?
At a business frat, they are not going to accept you based on your attire. In fact, attire plays little to no role in getting accepted. Get to know the members and be yourself. That's the only way you have a chance of getting in. Also know that these fraternities are known to select a certain type of people.
To make a good impression, don't join a frat.
I was in a business fraternity, so maybe I can shed some light on this for you.
Unless the invitation specifically says that the event is business professional/casual, don't get dressed up. Most of our events were very casual: Info sessions, many of which were right after class. We didn't expect you to come dressed up; come as you dress for class.
If we have bar-b-q's, jeans and a nice t-shirt/polo would be fine..
In summary, don't over dress. As an active member, I would always pick the guy (or girl) that was over dressed and automatically assume they were a try hard.
Don't take things too seriously, and just have fun. Be yourself during rush!
I thought business fraternities pretty much accepted everyone who wasn't a total, over the top fuck?
Good on you for asking this question. As the CRO (Chief Rush Officer) of my business fraternity (please... it's a fraternity not a frat), I have personally dinged many applicants for making the classic mistake of wearing loafers with their suits. How do you expect to get to the buyside if you aren't meticulously attuned to the dress code of a highly regarded undergraduate club's informal event? I've also dinged applicants for wearing too sloppy of a tie to our recruiting events (IE not Ferragamo, Gucci, etc.). Why would I want to consider someone who isn't dedicated to business enough to shell out a few hundred dollars on a tie? Edit: Obviously a joke -_-
