Chalk stripe suit - IB intern
Hi Monkeys,
Is it okay to wear a dark grey chalk stripe suit for an interview (off-cycle internship) ? While working as an intern/analyst ?
NB : I have one similar to that one (source : PRL).
Thanks.

I would not for an interview. I consider myself to be a pretty tolerant person when it comes to dressing, but for interviews if you stray away from the widely-expected 'standard uniform,' I think it does not look good. I have interviewed several first year MBA students who showed up with a 'flashy' suit and a pocket square and it turned me off. In an interview, you are trying to look presentable and polished but not too flashy. I would seriously warn anyone not to go outside the following:
Solid dark grey or dark blue single breasted suit
White shirt, no button-down collar
Black lace-up dress shoes and black belt (No loafers and no wing tips)
Conservative tie
No pocket squares, tie bars, loud colored socks, etc
Is it subtle? If you happen to be talking about the BB charcoal chalk strip, its probably fine, I have one because my body type is toothpick (I simply do not have broad shoulders, and when I lift my chest just pops out, which is not better), and chalk stripes do wonders for making me look a little more filled out. That being said, I like them because I am vain, nobody will ding you for being too skinny. People will ding you for being too flashy.
So why not just get a plain charcoal or navy suit, white or light blue shirt (point collar), blue or burgundy tie in an appropriate width (google dollar bill test), black captoe oxfords with matching belt, and a dressy watch (silver not gold). You should have these anyway, as there are conservative MDs and clients that will expect it.
Would not, go with the conservative during interviews; perhaps bring it out during the internship
