you just reminded me of something from last summer.

I wore some blue/gray argyle (Not huge colorful at all, very light blue lines subtle) socks one day and my VP pulls me aside and says (basically, don't remember exactly) "Hey, don't wear does socks again" Me "what? Sure, whats wrong with them?" Vp "You dont want to wear argyle socks, only asians wear argyle socks" Me "I'll burn them tonight" - I then go back to my desk and next time I go over to his desk another and another VP is over there and he goes "MYNAME come on you got to get your shit together" - semi joking

Is this at all true?? I really can't see how it is, but then again wtf do I know. WSO can I wear argyle socks?

I have some colorful socks, but don't wear them too much -- my firm is pretty formal/colorful socks can be a hassle to match with one's tie/shirt/etc.

Wear whatever you want, pussies.

Americans in American offices generally don't dress too 'metro,' but Americans (generally) have no style, so why would you want to emulate them?

Analysts normally don't wear $3k suits, though. European suits are generally more fitted than American ones, so they look nicer. Further, Italian tailors are MUCH cheaper in Italy than they are abroad, so if you are going to get suits made, and you're a continental European, you're going to be paying maybe 1/3 the cost Americans do for the same suits.

My point is this: the European analysts look sharper because their clothing isn't made for 250 lb. lard-asses, not because they spend 5 times what you do for their clothing.

Or maybe because they are gay/metro and worry so much about fashion...

wrong...americans are just fat and have no sense of fashion...dont go there...everybody on this earth makes fun of your guys and your non-sense of style...

i just wanted to see how many ppl wear them ...analysts or traders...lets avoid the america vs the world fashion argument.

Don't worry, we make fun of Europeans for having come in and save the day in WW1 and WW2.

Back on topic. If you're a first year or summer analyst / associate, don't wear anything that makes you stand out (i.e. cuff links, CEO shirts, suspenders, skinny ties, tie clips). Once you prove yourself, go crazy.

I used to wear colorful socks. Depends on the firms culture and what you think you can get away with. One can match their socks to the slacks or you can be bold and match it to you're tie and shirt. I was notorious for wearing some crazy shit. Then again I was well liked and was very good at my job.

I don't know much about suits,so go easy on me, but isn't the European cut more slim-fit i.e. tighter ? But yea, Euros probably do dress better.

yes around the waist...cause humans are supposed to have waists and not an 8km radius belly full of fat

Always find it funny when someone is a "fag" cause they wear bold color socks, but everyone on here jerks off to Patrick Bateman and he was the most metro guy on earth. Me thinks these guys do not know how to dress or are very shy little boys.

If you where socks like this follow these steps.

  1. Find tallest building in your city
  2. Enter said building
  3. GO to the top floor
  4. find window
  5. Jump out of it.

What about patterns like triangles/squares etc?

And if you wear solid bright colors, what do you match them to?

Paul Smith socks are the way forward dude. Much like everything in life the key is in the detail! Keep your outfit classic and conservative but little things like socks, jocks and pocket square be a subtle statement of your personality. Girls will give you a lot more cred if you know your shit too!
