DB Dress Code - NYC Columbus Circle

Can anyone help me out with dress for summer interns? I have one Brooks Brothers suit (navy) and a charcoal Suit Supply. What does everyone wear when not in suits. When I went for Superday I saw a lot of people not in suits.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about dress codes for summer interns in finance:

  1. Suits: Your navy Brooks Brothers and charcoal Suit Supply suits are solid choices. It's always better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed, especially at the start of your internship. Wearing a suit daily is generally expected unless explicitly told otherwise.

  2. Business Casual: When not in suits, business casual is the go-to. This typically includes:

    • Dress shirts (white, light blue, or subtle patterns are safe bets).
    • Dress pants or chinos in neutral colors.
    • A blazer or sport coat can be added for a polished look.
    • Ties are optional unless specified, but it's good to keep one handy.
  3. Shoes: Stick to classic dress shoes like Oxfords or Derbies. Brown shoes are acceptable, but black is the safest choice for formal settings. Avoid overly casual styles like loafers unless it's a casual Friday and you've observed others wearing them.

  4. Casual Fridays: If your office observes casual Fridays, ease into it. Start with business casual and observe what others wear before transitioning to more relaxed options like chinos or even jeans (if appropriate).

  5. General Tips:

    • Always err on the side of conservative and professional.
    • Ensure your clothes are well-fitted and in good condition.
    • Keep a blazer or jacket at your desk for unexpected meetings or events.

Your current wardrobe sounds like a great start. Just make sure to observe the office culture during your first few days and adjust accordingly!
