European vs American physique

It seems like Americans have really become fixated builds that are pretty extreme - guys like to be really bulky/muscular and girls like to really grow the dump truck (not complaining).

I'm from Milan originally and I would consider myself in good shape (6'2" and 86kg/190lb) but I think a lot of Americans would describe me as skinny, even though I can lift a fair amount. I think my build looks a lot better in classically tailored clothing (suits, shirts, etc) and that being bulky can look good but a lot of clothes look really silly (slim fit suits on 220lb low body fat guys look absurd).

For girls yes a very fit build is obviously attractive but I'd go as far to say it's equally attractive to me when I see a tall/slender and very well dressed lady

Based on discussions from WSO threads, there seems to be a cultural difference in physique preferences and fitness goals between Europe and the U.S. In the U.S., there is a noticeable trend toward more extreme builds, with men often aiming for bulkier, muscular physiques and women focusing on accentuating specific features like glutes. This aligns with the American fitness culture, which often emphasizes gym aesthetics and "bigger is better" ideals.

In contrast, European standards, particularly in places like Milan, lean toward a more balanced and tailored approach. Men with leaner, athletic builds (like your 6'2", 86kg frame) are often considered ideal, as this physique complements classic European fashion, such as slim-fit suits and tailored clothing. Similarly, for women, a tall, slender, and well-dressed appearance is equally admired, reflecting a preference for elegance and sophistication over extreme fitness aesthetics.

Ultimately, these differences highlight how cultural norms and fashion trends influence perceptions of attractiveness and physique. Both styles have their appeal, but the European approach often prioritizes versatility and refinement in appearance.
